Step outside the spin and talking points of both parties and think objectively about our situation.

For years, both sides of the two party system have been playing a game to polarize the American people by appealing to the far right and far left of their parties...

I believe most American are probably somewhere in the middle - preferring to use reason and logic to solve issues and move forward. But it seems like our politicians just want to point out all the differences instead of coming together for legislation that works for the good of Americans.

Just look at the a few of the situations we find ourselves in now, as well as, the hypocrisy of the actions of both parties.

LET THEM EAT CAKE

The current ‘leadership’ in Washington has been steamrolling through legislation that they are not even reading. Going so far as to hire speed-readers to zip through the bills - a blatant slap in the fact to people who criticize our government for not knowing what they are voting for. Who really knows what is in these bills...?

Then, when the people find out and raise questions, the government passes them anyway. They do whatever they choose, despite the desires of the people who elected them.

For example, the people say no to the bailouts... but the politicians pass it anyway.

And the promised ‘Five-Day-Reading-Period” is forsaken as just another campaign ideal.

MY GUY WILL HANDLE IT

A common misconception of the American people is to trust that their elected official has their best interest in mind. Thinking...”now that my guy is in, he’ll do things right’.

When ‘their guy’ is in office, they will do what is best for the country and the people. All objectivity is gone, because ‘their guy’ won and he’ll do things right.

So now they don’t have to pay attention to what is going on, because ‘their guy’ said what he was gonna do on the campaign trail...so they go back to their life thinking the candidate will do as they said on the campaign trail.... Not watching them, not holding them accountable...

TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION

Our government was formed as a republic...with the idea that our leadership is elected to represent the views and ideals of the people in their constituency.

Yet, it seems that the actions of both parties reveal a disconnect between their own motives versus the needs of the people they were elected to represent. They don’t pay attention to the American public until the resounding voices of the masses threaten their power.

For years, both sides hold the same positions...on the same issues...and nothing gets done...

It is as if both sides want to keep many issues unresolved so they can use them for campaigning and fundraising instead of solving them for true progress... If the problems where fixed, then what would be left to debate and attack the opposition with?

And who suffers...? Not the wealthy establishment who is insulated by money.

It is ”We the People” who are impacted when our government fails to act.

IMMIGRATION

Remember the massive immigration marches in 2006..?

Championed as ‘A Day Without Immigrants’...these marches flooded city streets with protesters and made immigration the lead story in all the news media.

Hundreds of thousands marching in our cities...

But what did our legislators do about the immigration policy?

They debated for months, and then pushed an ‘immigrant citizenship’ bill upon Americans...the people revolted.

So what did congress do then...? They backed down from the issue and passed minor legislation that hasn’t change much at all...

Somehow the images of hundreds of thousands of people marching in the streets doesn’t seem to motivate our leadership enough to take the issue seriously...immigration reform is stalled.

Then, election 2008...the majority of polling shows Americans do not favor 'amnesty for illegals'.

But somehow, both the candidates we ‘selected’ for President favor a 'path to citizenship'....

The Democrat Barack Obama favoring citizenship and health care for ‘undocumented workers’.

And the Republican, John McCain, who wrote the 'Amnesty Bill' that the American public resoundingly protested still sends mixed signals on the issue.

SUPER-DELEGATES - One Man, One Vote?

On one hand, Democrats complain about how their voters were disenfranchised in Florida during the election of 2000.

But where is the outrage when their own party has super-delegates that can over turn the will of the people in back room deals?

In case you didn’t know... The super-delegate system - initially put in place to allow party bosses to substitute their preferred candidate for the popularly chosen one if their leading candidate might not be suitable or electable after all.
I mean, that seems fair...cast aside the votes and let the leadership choose. Nice.
Even further, the fiasco of 2008 primaries in Michigan and Florida where committees decided that the delegates from those states only get half a vote.

Where is the outrage...? When their own party turns the idea of one man one vote on it's head.
